I wish I was given $1.00 every time someone told me how much they hated wearing their polyester activewear when playing sport or at the gym. The same consistent comments are made “it doesn’t breathe”, “it sticks to my body”, “it really smells”, “I get itchy from it” and “its hot”.
“Polyester is a polymer, or a long chain of repeating molecular units. The most common variety is polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, a plastic derived from crude oil that’s used to make soda and ketchup bottles. When melted, it has the consistency of cold honey, and if you squeeze it through a spinneret, kind of like the shower head in your bathroom, you get long, continuous filaments. Draw those filaments out into thin fibres, weave lots of those fibres together, and you have a fabric.”
I don’t know of too many people who like being wrapped in plastic, unless you are into that sort of thing!
Based on the above description which came from www.qz.com it is clear to see why I keep getting the same consistent comments about polyester activewear.
Even though premium cotton fabric is so much more expensive than polyester, this is why Honoré Activewear has made a conscious decision to ensure that any fabric against a childs sensitive skin will be made from natural, breathable fabrics. Whilst polyester fabric is used, the designs of the activewear ensure the bottom layer is always made from either cotton or hemp.
