About two weeks ago I received a call from one of the Mums from my daughters tennis pennant team. She could hardly speak and I wasn’t quite sure whether something was seriously wrong or not. As it turns out she could hardly speak due to such excitement. Her son James had entered into the ANZ Tennis Hot Shot Leagues Australian Open Experience and he had WON! However, to make it even more exciting for him and his family his whole winter tennis pennant team gets to enjoy the experience with him. Tennis can so often be seen as a solitary sport so the fact that the whole team has been recognised and gets to experience the prize together it really highlights to other parents that tennis can also be very much a team sport.
Needless to say all of the children in the winter tennis pennant team were even more excited than the mums and dads. They have been buzzing and counting down the days until they leave ever since.
Their Australian Open Experience includes return flights to Melbourne for themselves and a parent, 2 nights accommodation, but what they are really excited about is that they get to play tennis on one of the Australian Open tennis courts as well as get behind the scenes access to the event.
All of the kids in this tennis pennant team train at least 3-4 days per week, play weekend pennants and tennis tournaments. This opportunity has really inspired them to continue training and working hard to hopefully reach their dreams and aspirations one day in the future.
They are all looking forward to watching some of their favourite tennis players play and are hoping to get some selfies with them as well as their autographs.
